AMP Had Its Moment. That Moment Has Passed.
Remember when AMP was "the future of the mobile web"?
Google required AMP for Top Stories carousel placement. Publishers scrambled to create AMP versions of every article. It was messy, restrictive, and a lot of work.
Then Google dropped the AMP requirement in 2021.

The State of AMP in 2026
AMP is no longer required for any Google Search feature. Top Stories, news carousels — all accessible to regular pages that meet Core Web Vitals thresholds.
Some publishers still use AMP because it enforces fast-loading pages. The constraints that made it annoying also made it fast.
But you can achieve the same speed with a well-built responsive site. Without the limitations. Run PageSpeed Insights to see where your regular pages stand against AMP speeds.
Should You Use AMP?
If you already have it: Keep it if it is working. But stop investing heavily in it. Focus on making your main site fast instead.
If you do not have it: Do not bother. Build a fast responsive site. Meet Core Web Vitals. You will get the same benefits without the AMP restrictions.
If you are maintaining both AMP and non-AMP versions: Consider sunsetting AMP. The maintenance burden is not worth the diminishing returns.
