"Near Me" Searches Are Filling Your Competitor's Tables
"Restaurants near me" gets searched 20 million times per month. "Best restaurants in [city]" gets searched millions more.
If you're not showing up for these searches, you're leaving seats empty. Every single day.
After 20+ years helping local businesses dominate search, here's the restaurant-specific playbook.
GBP: Your Digital Front Door
Your Google Business Profile is more important than your website for restaurants. Period.
Get these right:
The Menu Problem
Here's something that drives us crazy. Restaurants upload their menu as a PDF.
Google can't read PDFs well. Your menu items become invisible to search.
Create a dedicated menu page on your website with text-based menu items. Use MenuItem schema markup. Now Google can read every dish and show it in search results. Google's local business structured data docs have the full Menu schema specification.
Come closer. Listen.
When someone searches "best carbonara near me," Google can show your restaurant IF your menu is text-based with schema. If it's a PDF, you're invisible.
Reviews Are Everything
For restaurants, reviews are quite literally everything. A 4.5-star restaurant with 800 reviews will crush a 4.9-star restaurant with 30 reviews.
Train your staff to mention reviews at checkout. "If you enjoyed your meal, we'd love a Google review!" Put a QR code on the receipt. Our guide on getting more Google reviews has the full restaurant-ready system.
Food Photography
Invest in good food photography. Not stock photos. Not iPhone photos in bad lighting. Real, appetizing shots of your actual dishes.
These go on your GBP, your website, and your social media. They're doing triple duty.

Online Ordering and Reservations
If you offer online ordering or reservations, make sure those links are in your GBP profile. Google shows booking buttons directly in listings. Don't give that real estate to third-party apps — link to your own ordering system when possible.
